Me & My Girl Character List

If you are interested in auditioning for 'Me and My Girl', then here is a breakdown of the characters. You must register your interest with us by 29/09/99. Please contact Jackie Hall by email or on 01908 648728.

Bill Snibson
A pugnacious Cockney from Lambeth complete with check suit and bowler hat! Quick-witted, lively, irascible, playful and totally charming. He needs to exude energy and warmth. He is very much in love with Sally and thinks the world of her. He has no concept of social boundaries at the start of the show and takes everyone at face value. He is very confident and content to be who he is but can also be quite naive and doesn't quite know how to respond to Jaqueline's very forward advances! We are looking for a strong character actor who can sing and move well.

Songs: Me and My Girl; You Would If You Could; Hold My Hand; The Lambeth Walk; Love Makes the World Go 'Round; Leaning on a Lampost
Playing age: mid 20s to 30s (must be a credible couple with Sally)

Sally Smith
Bill's girlfriend from Lambeth. Like Bill, she is lively, charming and proud of her roots. She is devoted to Bill and will do anything for him.

Songs: Me and My Girl; Hold My Hand; Once You Lose Your Heart; The Lambeth Walk; Take It On The Chin
Playing age: mid 20s to 30s (must be a credible couple with Bill)

Maria, Duchess of Dene
(pronounced 'Ma - reye - euh')!!!
The family matriarch! Co-executor of the Hareford clan's will. She is proud, forthright and domineering. She rules Hareford with a rod of iron and is very much in the 'Audrey fForbes-Hamilton' of 'To the Manor Born' mode. She takes it upon herself to educate Bill.

Songs: The Family Solicitor; Song of Hareford
Playing age: 40s-60s ...needs to be of a similar age to Sir John

Sir John Tremayne
Co-executor of the Hareford clan's will. Ever the English gentleman. The Family father-figure mixed in with a dash of the archetypal 'Squadron leader'. Has a love-hate relationship with Maria ...and although they 'spar' together very well, he has a genuine affection for her. He develops a real 'soft-spot' for both Bill and Sally. Frank Thornton played the role in the London revival and his 'Captain Peacock' character from 'Are You Being served' would provide a good starting point.

Songs: The Family Solicitor; Love Makes The World Go Round
Playing age: 40s-60s ...needs to be of a similar age to Maria

Lady Jacqueline Carstone
Upper class gold-digger of the highest order! Engaged to Gerald Bolingbroke ...who she dumps as soon as the new Hareford heir appears. She is slinky and sexy; determined and unashamed. We shouldn't hate her though ...she's not a super-bitch by any means ...just definitely up for some serious social climbing!!! NB. Ability to dance / move would be an advantage, but not absolutely necessary.

Songs: A Weekend at Hareford; Thinking of No-one But Me; You Would If You Could; The Sun Has Got His Hat On
Playing age: mid 20s-late 30s

The Hon Gerald Bolingbroke
Engaged to (and quickly dumped by!) Lady Jaqueline. A pompous but likeable twit. Very much of the cricket-white Sunday afternoon marbles-in-the-mouth brigade!

Songs: A Weekend at Hareford; Thinking of No-one But Me; The Sun Has Got His Hat On
Playing age: mid 20's-late 30s

Herbert Parchester - The Family Solicitor
Could be anything from the old doddery Family solicitor to an enthusiastic, city type à la Penfold in 'Dangermouse'!!! Surprise us!

Songs: The Family Solicitor
Playing age: mid20s-70s!!!!

Sir Jasper Tring
The old family relic! Will probably spend the entire performance in a wheel-chair. A lovely character part with lots of 'Ehs?'

Songs: A few interjections here and there!!!
Playing age: 60+

Charles, the Butler
The archetypal butler! True, trustworthy and ever the gentleman. Needs a dry wit and an ability to say a lot with just a lift of the eyebrow or a purse of the lips.

Songs: An English Gentleman
Playing age: mid 20s - 70s !!!!!!!!

Lord Battersby
A Hareford Hall relation. Seems to like a tipple and is often shouted at by his wife! A nice little character part who is also involved in all the chorus numbers.

Songs: The Family Solicitor & Chorus numbers
Playing age: mid 30s onwards

Lady Battersby
A Hareford Hall relation. Has to keep an eye on her husband who seems to like a tipple and she often shouts at him! A nice little character part who is also involved in all the chorus numbers.

Songs: The Family Solicitor & Chorus numbers
Playing age: mid 30s onwards

Mrs Brown
Cockney Landlady.

Playing age: any age . . . but ideally 40+

Constable
Policeman with an impeccable English RP accent! ...not to mention wit and humour!
